"White Primed Handrails" Frequently Asked Questions

One of the biggest advantages of white handrails for stairs is their flexibility. They work extremely well in both traditional and modern styled properties. White handrails can be used alongside white wooden spindles for a clean white effect. They can also be mixed with other timbers such as oak to create a modern style that looks great, whilst still retaining traditional design elements. Often, white handrails are also paired with glass panels for an ultra-modern, sleek appearance.

On top of versatility, white handrails are very strong and durable, making them a reliable, practical option for your stairway.

When you are choosing your ideal white handrail, there are various factors to consider. Firstly, it is important to decide on the size of the handrail that you require. It is vital to measure correctly to ensure that you choose the right size for your home.

• Grooved vs ungrooved - Ungrooved white primed handrails can either be mounted onto a wall with the aid of brackets, or used alongside glass panels and secured in place with glass panel clamps. Alternatively, you can purchase glass-grooved handrails to use alongside glass clamps. Grooved white primed handrails allow wooden spindles to be fitted into the groove. If you are using metal spindles, you can choose white base rails and handrails with smaller grooves intended for metal.
• Wall-mounted white handrails - You may also want to choose a wall-mounted handrail, such as a pigs ear handrail if you have a narrower stairway. These options are convenient, as they can be screwed directly onto a wall without the need for brackets. The unique curve of pigs ear handrails provides the perfect shape for gripping the rail when going up or down stairs. For a more decorative option, you may want to go for a white mopstick handrail alongside wall brackets and end caps to complete the look.
The general rule when cleaning your stair handrails is to start from the upper floors, moving downwards. We recommend that you begin by dusting the handrails and then wiping them with a damp microfiber cloth.
The base wood used for our white handrails is either birch or poplar (tulipwood), a knot free, pale hardwood that lends itself to be used for white primed parts. Our handrails are sprayed white, to a very high standard. They are classed as "primed" as there can often be some colour variation between batches, so they can either be finished in the colour of your choice or used as they are.
There are absolutely no limits to the colours you can paint your handrail, whether you want to make a bold statement or are looking for a classic colour for a traditional hallway. Because our white stair handrails come pre-primed, they are perfect for painting.

Painting a handrail requires an eye for detail. If any of these parts are painted sloppily or without care, it can ruin the look of the staircase. If you’re nervous about painting the handrails yourself – consider asking a professional or someone you know for help.
