FAQs
What does ‘stop chamfered’ mean?
A chamfer is a technique in woodworking that removes sharp corners and leaves behind an angled, beveled edge. The term ‘stop’ refers to the fact that the chamfer doesn’t cover the entire length of the spindle, but only runs along a specific section.
What are the benefits of using stop chamfered spindles?
Stop chamfered spindles are most often chosen to add visual interest. They can add a unique touch to a staircase that otherwise consists of the same stair part materials or style.
You might also find stop-chamfered spindles useful if you have small children, as they have softer edges and can be less prone to splintering than a continuous sharp edge.
Which finish is best for pine spindles?
Our pine spindles will arrive with you unfinished, and are perfect for painting, staining, or varnishing. The best option will depend on the finish you’re looking for and what will suit your tastes.
Stain and varnish will allow the natural grain of the wood to shine through, whilst protecting it from everyday wear. Staining, alongside painting, is also perfect if you want to change the colour of the pine.
Note: You should use a knotting solution before painting to seal the knots and prevent the natural wood resin from bleeding through.
Why should I choose pine for my stair parts?
Pine stair parts are often less expensive than their oak counterparts, whilst still offering a practical solution. Pine is also a perfect material for those who are more environmentally conscious, as pine trees grow quickly and are more sustainable than oak.
