FAQs
What do the top block, middle turning and bottom block measurements mean?
This spindle features a traditional turned design, which means it has been shaped using hand-held tools. The measurements of all three sections describe how much of the spindle has been turned and how much has been left as the full square design. The top of the turned section begins 178mm down the spindle and continues for 539mm, after which the full square area returns.
Can I leave these pine spindles unfinished?
The natural grain of the pine used to create these spindles adds a lovely touch to any staircase, but we wouldn’t advise leaving it unfinished. If you want to keep the appearance of the wood for your renovation, use a clear varnish or wax. Whether you choose to keep the natural finish under a clear treatment or go for a different colour entirely with paint, these spindles will not only be protected from scratches and dents, but also strengthened to withstand the everyday use of your staircase.
How many pine spindles will I need?
The amount of spindles you’ll need will depend on the style you choose and the measurements of your staircase. There are some legal requirements for the maximum spacing of your spindles, which you can find here, along with other relevant information. Why not use our handy spacing calculator below to make sure you’re getting it right the first time?
