One downside to using chrome is that can sometimes show fingerprints easily and can be susceptible to scratches, which means it might not be suited to homes with children or pets.
Brass is similar to chrome in its glossy finish, but it is warm in tone and very traditional. Although durable, it can be susceptible to fingerprints and scratches but it offers an opulent look.
Black metal end caps can provide an industrial and modern look. Since the brackets are constructed from stainless steel and powder-coated black, they are fairly durable, however it can be possible to scratch the paint. Black metal end caps won't show fingerprints easily which makes them a good choice for homes with children.
