FAQs

What are the Boston spindles made of?

The Boston spindles are made from mild steel and finished with coatings of zinc phosphate and black powder. Mild steel is a durable material, even when used on spindles with slimmer profiles.

Strength is crucial for stair spindles, helping to prevent falls from height. The spindles are also protected from rust and further strengthened by the powder coating applied during finishing.

Can I combine Boston spindles with other stair parts?

Yes! The black powder coating found on the Boston spindles is universal across our black metal ranges, allowing you to mix and match your spindle designs to really add a unique touch.

You can also contrast the stunning matt black finish of these spindles with stair parts of other materials, like oak or white primed wood. The combination of various finishes can bring both a modern and rustic feel to your staircase.

How do I clean Boston spindles?

Like any black metal stair parts, the Boston spindles are fairly straightforward to clean when used indoors. Here are our top tips:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to remove any dust from your spindles, paying attention to small crevices where it can build up.

  • If you notice any more stubborn dirt, you can occasionally use mild dish soap and warm water to keep them looking brand new.

  • If you use a cleaning solution, be sure to wipe it away with a damp, clean cloth and then dry thoroughly with a soft towel.

How many Boston spindles will I need?

The number of spindles you’ll need will depend on the measurements of your staircase. The gap between each spindle can be no more than 99mm to prevent falls from height, but you can choose how far apart you’d like your spindles to be within this limit.
